PechaKucha is a presentation format where presenters show 20 images, each for 20 seconds (6 minutes and 40 seconds in total) on topics ranging from their latest creative projects to recent vacation photographs. The format, which keeps presentations concise and fast-paced, powers multiple-speaker events called PechaKucha Night (PKN).
In October 2015, the topic for the PechaKucha 20×20 Asheville was that there was no topic at all. Participants could make a presentation on any subject of their choice or interest. And to help organize and promote this event in Asheville, I was asked to create an advertising campaign for two sets of audiences – the viewers and the participants.
On Feb 20th, 2015 as PechaKucha celebrated its 12th anniversary, Asheville joined hundreds of cities around the world to celebrate PechaKucha Global Night with a series of presentations around the theme, “Design In Your City.” To help organize this global event in Asheville, I created the collaterals and promotional materials for the event.
The Asheville City Hall Building is a colorful, and eclectic Art Deco masterpiece designed by Douglas D. Ellington, an architect who came to Asheville in the mid-1920s. Ellington stated that the design was “an evolution of the desire that the contours of the building should reflect the mountain background,” referring to the amazing scenery that surrounds Asheville and serves as the backdrop of City Hall.
